Winged Women on Wheels

The Indianapolis Speedrome version of the “Lady Hornets or WWOW is a new, entry level racing division designed to allow novice racers an opportunity for competition on a small budget. 

New division for 2004!!  Racing Friday Nights.

2004 SCHEDULE

The title says it all..... all female drivers with Hornet cars, slightly
modified with a special wing on the roof. The rules for WWOW division are
identical to the Speedrome Hornets. The wing is for appearance only!!
Speedrome WINGED WOMEN ON WHEELS

All Hornet rules apply.


WWOW cars must have mounted on roof a "Sprint" car type wing.

Lady Hornet drivers must utilize a wing as follows:

1. Wing construction of either aluminum or lexan. No Plexiglas allowed.

2. Wing measurements of 48" X 48" or less.

3. Car numbers displayed on wing surface rather than underlying roof panel.

4. Wing height limited to 60."

5. Wing mounting within an imaginary perimeter line of original roof design.
 

Separate division registration required.

Seats, belts, and pedals must be fitted for driver and at appropriate
lengths.

Car may compete in Hornet Division, but "wing" must be removed. Only one
division per night.

All procedures, general rules and policies stated in other sections of
this rulebook apply, except in cases of obvious conflict.

Section 1: Body

1. Must be a subcompact, 4-cylider model. (No Firebird, Camaro, Fairmont, etc.) Station Wagons and Pick-ups allowed. No convertibles or 4-wheel drives allowed.

2. No rear engine or mid-engine models.

3. All cars must be stock, street legal, no modifications of any kind.

4. Body must be sheet metal and fully stock appearing, no aluminum or fiberglass. No alterations of any kind. Roof, windshield post, and cowl must remain stock. Pickups must enclose bed. Hatchback cars, OK to remove rear window frame. If removed, replace deck portion with sheet metal to retain stock appearance. May not lower or tilt roofline.

5. Door must be bolted or welded shut.

6. Except windshield, remove all glass, moldings, and lens. All cars must have full windshield. No rear windows.

7. Doors must be reinforced with bars and driver's door to have steel plate.

8. Full floorboard must remain intact. Must have firewall between driver and engine, and between driver and fuel tank. Except for firewall, no interior sheet metal.

9. Fenders may be trimmed for tire clearance only.

10. No holes in hood for air cleaner. Hoods and trunks must have hood type pins. No bolting down.

11. No spoilers or front air dams of any kind, even if stock.

12. Stock-type A-arms, struts, and ball joints only. Cars must have original track width as manufactured.

 

Section 2: Engines

1. Engine must be 4 cylinder, and stock for year, make and model. Engines must remain in stock location.

2. Single carburetors only, not to exceed 2 barrels. Carburetors must remain stock for make, model and year of car. No altering of carbs in any way. Choke butterfly, if applicable must remain intact and must be wired open. Maximum 1” carb spacer including gaskets.

3. Intake and exhaust manifold must be of stock manufacturers original. No headers of any kind, even if stock.

4. No turbos, or rotary engines.

5. Exhaust must be single and completely sealed. It must exit behind driver and the last 6” of exhaust pipe no to exceed 2”inner diameter. Exhaust must be visible. No Flex-pipe allowed.

6. Ignition systems must remain stock. No aftermarket ignitions. Aftermarket wires and cap allowed.

 

Section 3: Fuel System

1. Fuel cell strongly recommended, fuel tank must be safely secured with 4 steel straps. If moving fuel cell/tank into hatchback trunk

or pickup bed, you must build a firewall to fully contain unit. No plastic tanks of any kind. If fuel cell is used, it must be completely enclosed in steel can.

2. Steel lines or braided hose must be used as fuel line form fuel source to fuel pump. No fuel lines in cockpit area.

 

Section 4: Tires and Wheels & Miscellaneous

1. Any 70, 75, or 80 series DOT radial tire 195 or smaller.

2. Maximum 6” wide steel wheels. Safety wheels recommended on right side (may not exceed width rule). Oversize lug nuts (1” or larger) MANDATORY on all wheels.

3. No weight may be added to car.

4. Cars must have 4 wheel operating brakes and must be factory stock system.

5. Front or rear -wheel drive with 3, 4, or 5 speed or automatic transmissions. No quick change-type or trick automatic transmissions or rear ends. No four-wheel or all wheel drives.
