1. WHEELBASE AND ELIGIBLE MODELS
1.1 Any American-made standard, full frame sedan is eligible with wheelbase
of 116 inches or more. No unibody vehicles. No Camaros, Firebirds,
No vas, Chevelles, Pintos, Jeeps, Trucks or Convertibles. No T-tops or
Sunroofs. Wheelbase is measured from center of front wheel to center of
rear wheel, as manufactured and in stock position.
2. CAR & BODY
2.1 Complete bumper-to-bumper, steel 21body must be retained.
2.2 The stock steel unaltered floor pan, firewalls, trunk and trunk floor, and wheel wells
MUST BE RETAINED. No sectioning, channeling or chopping allowed.
2.3 Cars must be strictly stock. No cutting, lowering, chopping, channeling, shortening
allowed. No holes in the hood or roof. Hood must be kept in place at all
times. Stock hinges must be used. Body sheet metal must be kept in place
at all times.
2.4 Front firewall must be sealed. No holes.
2.5 No lightening of body components, such as hood, trunk, doors, inner panels,
fenders and roof, except clearance for structural safety bars on doors.
2.6 All hoods and deck lids are to be pinned, no chains allowed.
2.7 Inner rear wheel wells must be left in place. Cutting is allowable on front to
separate the fender well from the frame, however, must remain attached
to the fender.
2.8 Front wheel wells may be removed for repair only.
2.9 Any sharp protruding objects on car or in driver's compartment must be
smashed down or removed.
2.10 All doors must be welded, chained or bolted shut.
2.11 Door hinges must remain in place.
2.12 A flush, securely mounted exterior driver's door protection plate is permitted.
2.13 A complete firewall must seal the trunk area from the driver's compartment.
Rear seat back may serve as firewall. The trunk floor must be in place.
2.14 Drivers door interior upholstery must remain in place or be suitably
re- placed. No bracing anywhere of any kind.
3. WINDSHIELD & GLASS
3.1 ALL glass, headlights, taillights and mirrors must be removed except for
front windshield. Take it out before arriving.
3.2 No broken glass shall be in the car. Car must be swept clean.,
3.3 Full factory glass front windshield required. No screens or plastic.
3.4 Cracked windshields should be taped.
3.5 Cracked windshields that impede the vision must be replaced.
DETAILED ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS
4. LOCATION
4.1 Engine must be in original stock rubber mounts, in stock location.
5. ENGINE CHARACTERISTICS
5.1 Engine must be strictly STOCK for the model and make.
5.2 Basically, do not do anything to the engine.
5.3 No after market racing parts.
5.4 Engine swapping between makes not allowed.
5.5 No machining, grinding, etc. of any kind.
6. ENGINE BLOCK
6.1 Engine block must be exactly as produced by manufacturer.
7. OIL PAN
7.1
Stock ONLY, no additions or alterations.
8. CYLINDER HEADS
8.1
STOCK heads only.
8.2 No aftermarket, "Bowtie" or aluminum heads.
9. INTAKE MANIFOLD
9.1 Must be STOCK for that make and model.
9.2 Cast iron manifold only.
10. EXHAUST
10.1
Cast iron Stock with no modifications as provided on engine. No center dump styles allowed.
10.2 Exhaust must terminate behind driver and within 18 inches of rear end
housing. Maximum of two inch pipe.
10.3 All cars must have unaltered factory type mufflers.
11. CARBURETOR
11.1 Carburetors must be stock O.E.M. street applicable 2 bbl.
11.2 Cars with 4 bbl can be utilized if back linkage rod is removed and butterflies
are wired shut.
12 AIR INTAKE
12.1 Stock air cleaner, maximum of 4-inch tall dry paper required.
12.2 Factory air cleaner is required and must be in place when car is on the racing
surface. Failure to have air cleaner on will automatically disqualify participant
from racing.
13 FUEL SYSTEM
13.1 STOCK components only as
produced by O.E.M.
14. ELECTRICAL/BATTERY
14.1 No dual point distributors.
14.2 Stock coil in stock locations, must use stock distributor.
14.3 Batteries must be strapped and securely covered.
14.4 Batteries must be safely and securely mounted under the hood in stock
location or where heater fan was located, forward of firewall.
15. COOLING SYSTEM
15.1 Stock radiator only in stock location.
15.2 No aluminum or plastic radiators. No electric fans.
15.3 One gallon overflow catch can must be installed.
15.4 No extra transmission or engine coolers.
15.5 No antifreeze allowed.
16. TRANSMISSIONS
16.1 Stock automatic transmissions with at least three forward gears. No extra
transmission coolers.
16.2 Shifter must be stock.
16.3 No rubber lines used in transmission cooling.
17. DIFFERENTIAL
17.1 Stock, unaltered rear end and a ratio of less than 3:50.
17.2 No posi's, limited slip or welded rear ends allowed.
18. DRIVELINE
18.1
Must be rear wheel drive.
19. BRAKES
19.1 No deviation from stock allowed.
19.2 Brake pedal must remain in stock location and mountings with no extensions or blocks.
19.3 Cars must have functional brakes on all four wheels.
19.4 Rear drum brakes only. No brake bias devices allowed.
20. FRAMES
20.1 Body and frame components must be exactly the same.
20.2 Complete bumper-to-bumper stock frame must be retained.
20.3 Repairs to stub must maintain exact measurements.
21 SUSPENSION
21.1 No modifying of the suspension allowed.
21.2 Suspension parts must remain absolutely stock and unaltered for that make and model car. No spacers, lumber or chains, etc. may be used to alter
stock suspension of car.
21.3 All four corners of frame must measure within once inch of level.
21.4 Rusty bolt rule applies. No new or replacement equipment allowed unless
approved.
21.5 No rear sway bars, spring jacks, blocked shocks or reverse shackles permitted.
21.6 No coil over, overload, cargo ratchet or air-assisted shocks allowed.
21.7 Springs must be stock passenger car origin.
22. WHEELS
22.1 Reinforced racing type wheels mandatory, all 4 wheels, wheels must be approved.
22.2 No mag, aluminum or slotted wheels allowed.
22.3 All wheels must be within one inch offset.
22.4 Maximum wheel width 8 inches.
22.5 No wheel spacers allowed.
22.6 Black wheels must be painted white, silver or yellow on back side of wheel completely.
22.7 Any loss of a wheel or a tire requires a driver to immediately pull into the
infield.
22.8 All cars must utilize 1" wheel lug nuts.
23. TIRES
23.1 Tires must be Brand Name, 75 Series, 14 or 15 inches, DOT-approved tire, includes P215, P225 and P235 tires.
23.2 All tires must be same letter size with brand marking unaltered & legible.
23.3 Tires utilized previously in Indianapolis Speedrome Late Models, Stocks and/or Modifieds, including, but not limited to: False Persuaders,
Mohawk, General Tire Ameritech, and Yokohama, not allowed.
24. GAS TANK INSTALLATION
24.1
Stock gas tank or securely mounted 6-gallon outboard marine type tank, plastic or steel. If 6-gallon tank is used, install as follows:
a. Tank must be installed above trunk floor, in center of trunk, as far
for- ward as possible (ahead of rear circumference or rear tires when
pos- sible) and securely mounted.
b. Tank must fill from inside trunk. No hole allowed in trunk lid.
c. One tank only.
d. Fuel cells optional.
24.2 No electric fuel pumps, no fuel lines in the driver compartment.
24.3 Tech inspector must approve the installation.
25. ELIGIBILITY
The Roadrunner Class is for beginning drivers and is designed as a
"pure rookie
class." The Chief Steward reserves the right to ban any competitor
due to racing experience at the Indianapolis Speedrome or elsewhere and
may ban any driver who dominates the competition. Determination of eligibility
by the Chief Steward is final.
25.5 Roadrunner drivers who compete in Late Model, Modified, Bomber and/or
Stock class may be allowed to return to Roadrunner class, pending
approval of Chief Steward.
26. CAR NUMBERS AND APPEARANCE
26.1 Doors must be painted white and numbers must be painted in a visible, dark
color. A car number that cannot be seen cannot be scored.
26.2 No spray can painted type of numbers allowed unless newly registered
car (one night only)
