Effective Nov. 1, 2003

The Bomber Figure-8 Class is for beginning drivers and is a rookie class for economy racing. All competitors are urged to use the Bomber Figure-8 Class as a stepping-stone to more professional forms of racing at the Indianapolis Speedrome. The emphasis of car construction is upon safety and economy. The Chief Steward reserves the right to ban any competitor due to racing experience at the Indianapolis Speedrome or elsewhere and may ban any driver who dominates the competition. The Chief Steward has final approval as to legality and/or interpretation of rules as applied to any Bomber Figure-8 car.

APPROVED CARS: Must be at least 116" wheelbase. Figure-8 cars must be a "full perimeter" frame, factory-produced vehicle. No uni-body type cars allowed, i.e. Chrysler.

CAR PREPARATION: Must be stripped of dashboard, protrusions, upholstery and exterior body trim (door handles, mirrors, lights and glass except front windshield. All factory produced body parts, floorboards, trunk floor, and inner wheel well, etc. must be intact and remain as original produced parts.

ROLL CAGE CONSTRUCTION: Vehicles can utilize rub-rails and nerf bars. Steel doorplate is required on driver's side roll cage area. Roll cage is mandatory for all Bomber Figure-8 Class cars and is available through various manufacturers, including Love Fabricating, Inc. The roll cage must be constructed as follows:

All roll cage bars are to be constructed of 1 3/4 inch round steel tubing with a wall thickness of .090 or better. The roll cage must have four equally spaced horizontal door bars on both right and left sides. The roll cage is constructed with a vertical hoop behind and above the driver's head that is welded to the frame rails at the bottom and to the left and right front roll cage legs by a roof hoop. The top cross bar of the rear vertical hoop and the side bars of the roof hoop must be located so the bottom side of those bars is higher than the top of the driver's head when seated in the car. The front legs should follow the contour of the side of the windshield and be welded to the frame rails. The rear vertical hoop must have a diagonal bar from top left to bottom right or top right to bottom left. A bar must connect the left and right of the rear vertical hoop at the seat height. This bar must be welded to the diagonal bar. A bar must connect the legs of the rear hoop at their base, or it is recommended that an "x" connect the left and right frame rails at the points where the front legs and rear hoop are connected. A bar must be installed across the dashboard connecting the left front roll cage leg to the right front roll cage leg. Rear support bars, left and right, must extend behind the top of the rear vertical hoop to the rear of the frame. The front leg and the rear hoop must be connected with four equally spaced horizontal door bars on the left side. The bottom door bar must be connected to the left frame rail by at least three angular bars equally spaced between the front leg and rear hoop of the roll cage. All door bars must be connected by at least three vertical bars equally spaced between the front leg and rear hoop. The roll cage must be welded with no gaps or holes at the welds, and key stress points must have steel gusset plates for reinforcement. A 1/4-inch plate welded to the cage must cover the left side of the roll cage. No bars ahead of front firewall. All bars, which can be reached by driver, should be padded with resilient materials, including the steering hub. The left side roll cage must be equipped with window net that is securely fastened at bottom and quick release on top rail.

Note: Roll cage is to be constructed of 1 3/4 inch round steel tubing with a wall thickness of .090 or better.

The driver's seat frame must be attached to the roll cage. The seat must not be mounted to the floorboard of the car. If the seat does not extend up behind the driver's head, a steel plate of at least 8x8 inches covered by at least 2 inches of padding must be welded to the roll cage directly behind the driver's head.

The belts must be mounted to make their length as short as possible. The seat belts should not pass over the sides of the seat but should pass through the seat at the bottom of each side. Under no condition may the seat belts be worn over the area of the intestines and abdomen.
