We are proud to announce the 2010 World Figure 8® Tour. The Indianapolis Speedrome® will play host to this four-race series leading up to the 34th Annual World Figure 8® Championship to be held September 9-11, 2010. Drivers and teams from around the Midwest will now have more opportunities to race at the host track in preparation for the celebrated crossover weekend. Fans will be the ultimate winner with more great Figure 8 action on their plate during the upcoming year.
The 2010 World Figure 8® Tour campaign will compete on Friday evenings to avoid confliction with the drivers and their own track schedule. The dates for this championship point series are April 30, June 11, July 2, and July 23. Each event will consist of qualifications, heat races (except July 2nd), and a thrilling 100-lap Figure 8 feature. The overall series champion will receive $1000, a 5-foot trophy, and a locked-in starting spot for the 34th Annual World Figure 8® Championship on September 11, 2010. This guaranteed position is non-transferable.
The World Figure 8® Tour is also proud to proclaim its race director, Kenny St John. The legendary Figure 8 icon is a member of the Speedrome Hall of Fame and won an incredible five straight World Figure 8® Championships from 1978 to 1982. “This series is the perfect vehicle to enhance the World Figure 8® Championship”, stated St John. “Cars from Michigan, Kentucky, and other states can get more valuable Speedrome track time preparing for September’s World Figure 8® weekend. With so many talented Figure 8 drivers around today, these races will have the fans screaming for more. Each 100-lap World Figure 8® main event will pay $1,200 to the victor with $100 going to any driver that starts the contest. There will also be a unique BOUNCEBACK BONUS on the line on each one for those four tour weekends. If the feature winning driver can comeback the following night to win the Speedrome Late Model Figure 8 feature, they will receive a $500 bonus on top of their earnings. This could run their weekend total upwards of $2,700.
Cars eligible to compete will fall under the 2010 World Figure 8® Championship rules. Stock class machines are welcome. The tradition of a competition friendly common tire will also continue. These 10-inch tires will be available exclusively at the Indianapolis Speedrome® for $75 each plus all applicable taxes. “These tires have given us drivers a level playing field in the past”, proclaimed reigning World Champion Ben Tunny from Fairland, Indiana. “I think these races will be fun while learning more about our cars and the other drivers for September”.
